[About this blog] Inspired by local soccer player Mike Lim during my rookie reporter days at Singapore Polytechnic, I set up this blog in August 2002. I feel that blogging is a novel platform to document interesting facets of my life and my thoughts on certain issues. [Email blogger] ephraim@singnet.com.sg

[naked truths]
i watched my first R(A) movie: naked ambition....

yes....don't remind me of the 50 topless asian models strutting their stuff.... it was quite a funny movie with some lessons taught..... and no, it wasn't because you could see the erect tits of the models... (don't make me go into succient details)

i actually brought my digital camera in.... but no guesses on what i did with it.... i could have shot up to 10 minutes of footage.... did i? go figure...

anyway, it brings me back to the point.... what reporters write and what gets printed plays a heavy role on the reader.... news is powerful as advetistments such that it creates a strong impact on the reader....

my journalism skills lecturer says that if you expose the reader to certain things daily, one day he might follow what you say even if he stongly does not believe.... why? simply because you are exposed to it on a regular basis such that you believe it in the long run....

eg. if you keep on telling teenagers to read papers and know about current affairs and if you tell them to go for such events because it's fun... THEY WILL....

that brings me to stereotyping... how did you associate a witch as a bad person? how about men with long beards and unkempt hair?

cartoons that we are exposed to at a young age are the cause of it.... who killed snow white? a witch.... who is popeye's enemy? bluto the guy with beard bristles on his chin... they look harmless to us but plays on the minds of children...

and now something to think about.... did the creator of popeye want to make kids love to eat spinach when he created the series?

he probably made eating spinach look so cool in the cartoon that it probably played an impact on the kids.....

did you mum want to introduce racism by telling you to be quiet and stop crying when you were young.... otherwise the mang kali (black guy) would catch you....

is that why we are so afraid of them now? or is that the cause why some condemn them now....

point to ponder: are all indians road sweepers? or is it because we are told from young "study or you'll end up like them" that we remember so clearly.... go figure... i'll leave it to you....
