[About this blog] Inspired by local soccer player Mike Lim during my rookie reporter days at Singapore Polytechnic, I set up this blog in August 2002. I feel that blogging is a novel platform to document interesting facets of my life and my thoughts on certain issues. [Email blogger] ephraim@singnet.com.sg

kindof the same yet different kind of clubbing feeling after not going for so long... and it was my first time going to the members lounge... the view from the top is simply awesome... can see almost everyone dancing...

[coffee tea and youth]
was at coffee club outlet along orchard road today...

as part of my team singapore involvement my task at the event was to usher guest of honour dr vivian balakrishnan...

armed with walkie talkies we received him from his black jaguar... and he drove himself with no chauffer in tow...

the tea session was to honour the young athletes who did singapore proud at the recent commonwealth youth games in australia...

[one last dance]
the news revealed more about the movie one last dance today... and filming will be wrapping up in a few days time according to a source...

the article titled New MediaCorp Raintree picture with international cast hopes to debut in Cannes can also be found on the channel news asia website...

It is a genre that is becoming increasingly popular - the stylised Eastern gangster movie with audiences in both the East and West lapping it up.

And now, with the best actors from the East and West, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures is producing one such movie - a twist-filled, genre-bending production called "One Last Dance" with a surprise ending shot entirely in Singapore.

Daniel Yun, CEO, MediaCorp Raintree Pictures, said: "Is it a romantic comedy? Is it a love story? But, it's actually an action film. And it's the whole idea of someone committed to something and suddenly he sees the potential for romance but he is so caught up with his life of contract killing, revenge and then the music starts and he thinks this is his chance to ask the girl for One Last Dance."

Hong Kong actor Francis Ng of Infernal Affairs 2 fame plays the jaded contract killer and Taiwanese actress Vivian Hsu his love interest.

Playing a cameo role, 8 minutes onscreen as an Italian mafioso, is Hollywood veteran Harvey Keitel.

A well known face in Western gangster movies, Keitel has appeared in early Martin Scorcese movies and more recently in Quentin Tarantino hits like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.

He is hoping to cross over to the East.

Keitel said: "I had heard of Raintree before. When 'One Last Dance' came to me, it seemed to be that someone was knocking on my door as I was looking at the door where the knock was emanating from. And so I am here and I have great hopes that I'm going to return to Asia with a few more films to be made with Raintree and Daniel Yun."

Raintree Pictures had picked up the script through contacts at film markets and decided that perhaps Singapore could be the location for the shoots.

After all Hong Kong's streets are too familiar and Los Angeles', too expensive.

The 40-plus locations the production team came up with, including a bridge in the Fullerton area, might just surprise many viewers familiar with Singapore.

The Media Development Authority is co-funding the $2.5 million picture with Raintree and other international partners with the Singapore Tourism Board also pumping money in.

With an international cast, a Brazilian director, Cantonese dialogue and Hollywood cameos, the film still manages to speak in one voice.

Film-makers hope to get the project ready for the Cannes Festival in the second quarter of next year. - CNA

[shooting in progress]
warning: long post with photos...

it seemed like just a normal day at instant glamour... but the fun quotion is upped when you put all 12 contestants from mmsp together...

the story today revolves the seats and the numerous mirrors... as well as spray cans of gel, bottles of wax and loads of loose powder...

first up... the contestants get their hair preened by the professionals...

and then... it is time for the magical make-up...

not just the face...

but the lips too...

and even the guys have to do it so they will look good in print...

finally it is into the shooting room for not more than five minutes... and there you have it... a nice shoot worthy to be remembered for a long time...

in between shoots they also get grilled by reporters too... are we having the singapore idol fever again?

[my fans or yours]
it is a yearly tradition for fans to dash to the radio gates at mediacorp after the show...

okay... i followed too... and so did another reporter with his photog in tow...

because, at radio gate it is star wars for the fans... but they don't really fight...

close to 100 fans stake out and get up close and personal to their fave artiste... one guy even hugged sharon au...

a pregnant zoe takes a hired mini bus home just like last year a little birdie tells me...

and elusive fann is surrounded by fannatics... fann thanks them and they chitter and chatter for more than 10 minutes...

guess the fans will be smiling all the way home...

[battle of the fans]
okay... i am nearly deaf...

after going for star awards 2004 and being seated amongst the many different fanatic sects... it is no wonder the noise level last night was hyper for me...

although the ceremony started pretty bland with the not so exciting awards it was still quite bearable...

in the beginning during ad breaks i just laid back on my seat and closed my eyes to take a breather while the fans kept on screaming for their fave artistes...

meanwhile what you didn't see on tv was too much to describe...

fann and ivy were caught being interviewed by one reporter in the hall itself while others were being ushered out by their minders...

and this year many artistes had two outfits for the show... for the record joanne peh, fann wong, sharon au and matilda tao... even host timothy cao tried to do likewise by varying his outfit sometimes with the tie and sometimes without...

another thing you didn't see on tv was the press photo shoot after the show... pity... and there was a little 'brawl' on stage over fann wong... apparently it was between the lee "brothers" mark and christopher...

of course, not forgetting matilda tao's marraige proposal to gurmit singh which was kindof hilarious as she spoke in english...

and by the time 5566 got onstage my eardrums were nearly pierced...

[dancing rocks]
caught the mmsp contestants in action during their second dance rehearsal today... rock and roll sequence man...

too bad didn't learn any moves... perhaps i'll try to pick up some moves as the competition heats up...

here's a sneak peek at the guys strutting their stuff...

and not forgetting the lovely babes too...

the session ended with a group a-la press conference photo shoot...

mr and miss singapore polytechnic 04/05 is tentatively scheduled to be held on 19 feb at the sp convention centre...

[floorball]
the mmsp photoshoot has been postponed to next week.... but i have not been lazing either...

as part of team singapore i went to the asia pacific floorball championships at woodlands sports hall today...

it was definitely an adrenaline pumping game and an eye-opening experience as it's not a very popular sport here... it's kindof like soccer with five players in each team trying to score in their opponents goal...

the first match was between malaysia and australia with australia emerging as the winner...

and the second was between japan and singapore.... and poor singapore was beaten 3-0...

no photos of me once again... but here's a little surprise photo of the team singapore girls....

and the countdown intensifies... and i only am left with eight more days to ord...

[movie madness]
it's unusual for me to blog this early in the day... and it is because of a movie..

a collaboration between raintree pictures hk and china to be exact... and it is titled one last dance...

you've guessed it... i was shooting a movie... yes... you are not dreaming... a movie...

a real first for me i must say... and it was fun meeting international celebs such as francis ng as well as local celebs like zzen zhang... but no pictures of them and me cause i am no media whore very well thank you...

perhaps you can say it is a blink and you miss it role... but heck... the experience was great...

it was an overnight shoot spanning eight hours!!

and i won't be cheapskate to ask you to watch the movie like someone who asks you to vote for her blog...

it's a personal milestone i must say... and it is all thanks to my ex-campmate that i got this lobang...

[final showdown]
who will win as the competition heats up?

it's the face off between taufik and sly tonight...

only time will tell....

i think that taufik did well with all three songs... way to go!!

and sly charmed with an jing and i dream... it's my life was not that well delivered...

personally i think the judges were all quite positive tonight...

and taufik deserves the title of singapore's first idol...

if you ask me... i'll agree with florence that both of them are winners in their own rights...

and yes... that is what friends and fans are for...
